OUR HISTORY
A RESTAURANT WITH A LOT OF HISTORY
ABOUT US
The Atxuri restaurant, which was originally called Pontevedra-Atxuri, was founded in Plocia Street by Antonio Anasagasti Orbe, a Basque from Mundaka, and Juan Frende, a Galician.
In 1951 Jon Monasterio Anasagasti arrived from the Txomane farmhouse in Bermeo, and with sacrifice, effort and dedication, he knew how to deal with and overcome the vicissitudes that he encountered over time. His gastronomic knowledge was similar to that of the kitchens of those Basque farmhouses of the time and the products that were used: cod, beans, hake...
In 1979 Jon bought the business as his own property. He became an icon of Cádiz cuisine, respected and loved by customers and neighbours of Cádiz, until he retired in 2008. Fortunately, the tradition has been continued by his family with the same values that he instilled in them of love and respect for the raw ingredients and the people who visit them.
On 21 February 2008, the Atxuri Restaurant moved to its current location, number 7, Calle Plocia. It is now run by Marián Monasterio, Jon's daughter, and his son Julen, as manager.
